What a great declaration that all men are created equal. But those that wrote it, did not mean me.

What a grand and lofty ideal is "We the People". But to the men that penned it, I was "they" and for my kind "we" did not include me.

How wonderful to have the security of our rights enshrined so that they may never be violated, not even by those vested with the greatest power. But alas, those rights were not intended for me.

So, when I heard the good news, how the Creator not only offers freedom from the horrors of our human error but that He, Himself extends to His creatures the right to be called the children of God, indeed it was the most beautiful Word ever conceived. In disbelief, I searched for the fine print where I might be excluded and finding none, I scarcely could believe it.

In my heart, I asked, "Even me, Lord?"

And, His Spirit affirmed to my spirit, "Yes, even me."

I am so glad the Gospel is not words devised and written by man. I may enjoy its benefit fully and no man can take it away.
