I'm sure some of you mean well.

But, as a Christian and one who has preached the gospel for 20 years, I am against the construction of a giant cross in our town.

Why? Because I believe it will hinder the gospel rather than advance it.

What meaning have we who call ourselves Christians given to this lower case "t"? Its point might be better understood if our churches corporately participated in works to love our neighbors behind this symbol. But as it stands currently, it's just a giant, empty, pointless cross. Is that how we want to represent Christ?

If you must build a cross, we should do the real work first.

Otherwise, it will come across more as a symbol of man's power than a representation of God's love.
